Damage to our lungs
Many microplastics enter our bodies through the air. The small plastic particles enter our noses and reach our lungs, where they’re trapped permanently. These particles can be microscopic and can enter our bloodstream, or large enough to cause discomfort and inflammation.
We need more studies to determine the damage that plastic particles in our lungs can cause, but a few researchers suggest these can even pierce the delicate tissue and obstruct oxygen absorption.
